Vacations in Greece: Road Trips to Paradise

It’s no wonder Greece is the number one summer destination for people living in adjacent countries. Bulgaria is only a breath away. The road trip from Bucharest, Romania, to the border takes more or less 8 hours.

Greece is close and full of gems that can make your summer vacations unique. There’s an infinite number of summer resorts, fabulous beaches, and the best seawaters ever. It all depends on how many days you have at your disposal and which places you want to visit.

Where to go? We recommend 4 great summer destinations.

Halkidiki is a paradise for those in search of beautiful beaches with turquoise waters and resorts that can cater to the needs of families. It will take an approximately 3-hour drive to get from the Promahonas (Kulata) border to Halkidiki.

If you have already driven from Romania, perhaps you should get some rest at the Agnantio Hotel first. It’s only minutes away from the borders.

Thassos is the northernmost island of Greece. It takes about 3 hours from the borders – a bit more if you decide to visit Lake Kerkini or stop in Serres first. You drive all the way to Keramoti and get the boat to the island. It takes about 40′. Thassos has great beaches, a plethora of resorts, many attractions, and delicious local products – olive oil, wine, honey and many more.

Lefkada is one of the most beautiful Ionian Islands in Greece, known for its blue waters and breathtaking landscapes. Although this is an island, it is connected to the mainland with a bridge.

So, you can continue your road trip without getting to a ferry. It will take you about 5 hours to get from the border to Lefkada.

Your road trip from the Kulata border to Zakynthos will last for more or less 8 hours – it’s best to stop over at Agnantio Hotel – Spa to drive safely.

But it’s totally worth it! Considered the jewel of the Ionian Sea, Zakynthos won’t only enchant you with its turquoise sea but the great beaches, the hospitality of the locals, and the interesting landscapes. If you are lucky, you may see some Caretta Caretta turtles on the island. You’ll need to get the ferry from Kyllini.
